2004

This was the 42nd show of the Lake District season with displays from crooks to sheep dogs, the Buttermere Show is as traditional as hill farming. It started as an event at which shepherds met to swap sheep from their Herdwick and Swaledale flocks which had gone astray. The rest - the show bit - was added more than 30 years ago.

This year, the second in the show’s new venue on the Rannerdale Farm, was a success despite threats from the weather, said secretary Lorna Norman.

Memories of years past were brought to the show by veteran commentator, Glen Tubman who played music sung by people at former shows.

This year’s president was Jock Ireland with Bob Benn as chairman.
